In an attempt to quiet my Generac 6500 Mega Force generator so during a power outage it's not a nuisance to my neighbors I changed the stock spark arrestor with a Yamaha R1 motorcycle muffler. It did not quiet the noise as much as I expected. I may have reduced the overall noise level by about 15% at the most. This is my first revision. Next I am going to weld the R1 muffler on the output of the stock spark arrestor. I am aware of back pressure issues so please no comments about increasing the back pressure. The R1 muffler has extremely low back pressure and it is a non issue. There still remains the issue of the ENGINE NOISE itself, and I am working on a dog house style enclosure with proper ventilation to reduce overall noise further. I know Honda has super quiet generators but they are thousands of dollars. I use the 240 VAC output into my breaker panel with proper safety Interlock (lockout) kit instead of the expensive transfer switch. The advantage of interlock vs transfer switch is I can power any breaker in my box instead of being limited only to 6 or 10 circuits available with the transfer switches sold at home improvement stores. Thanks for watching.
